the gallery: ugly

Tara at Sticky Fingers began The Gallery six weeks ago now, asking readers to post on a particular theme or prompt each week, to create a place to share our photographs. This week's topic - ugly - was particularly difficult to post on, as, everything you find here, dear readers, is supposed to keep you positively inspired! Over the weekend while out and about, I did decide on a subject, though: litter. Once I had decided I couldn't help but see little bits of it - everywhere! I then decided to look into the UK's clean-up campaigns, to try and turn this into something inspirational, and, I'm pleased to report on LitterAction: a campaign to encourage us to clean up the neighbourhood, which is co-run by Clean Up UK. Did you know we can even register as individual litterpickers?! A good excuse for some fresh air, sun and exercise, and I'm sure kids would love the challenge of picking the most litter.

Nothing worse than cigarette ends - worse now with the no smoking ban - they are all piled up outside buildings.
Brilliant photography!

Wonderful photography.
I agree, there's nothing more disgusting than cigarette ends (apart from possibly chewing gum being discarded in a similar way.) My son is old enough to walk for most short trips but not quite old enough to understand that you don't pick interesting things up and put them in your mouth: I dread to think what would happen if he did.
I think I'm off to go and join a litter-picking team now!

Snap, I chose litter as my ugly theme too - I think yours is the 4th one I've found from Tara's gallery to do litter, so it just shows how strongly many of us feel about it. Beautiful photos though, you are obviously too talented to produce anything that is actually ugly!
