Last week I found some lovely crochet blankets for my little collection and also for Hello Darling! Vintage. One had an extension sewn on to one side of it where, presumably, the previous owner had started to make it bigger. Mum helped me to remove the side-strip to turn the rug back into a square but then it seemed like such a waste to throw away the crocheted side-strip, so we decided to turn it into little home-made puppy rugs! Here is the blanket and the detached side-strip:
And the things we used to make it; binding, elastic and cotton (but we didn't end up using the button):
Then we brought in our model, the youngest member of our family, eight-months old Frasier:
Sorry, I got a bit carried away there (he is too cute)! Then, we trimmed down the strip into three equal pieces (that would likely fit a small dog) and finished the edges (as most were raw) with the binding. I'm not a huge fan of the black trim but the original blanket was finished off with black wool, so we thought it would be the best match...
We then attached the elastic around the waist, and a smaller, looser strip around the neck, and that's it. I could only find poly-cotton binding, which was slippery and hard to sew over the thick wool, so it's not the neatest of finishes. Still, though, better than ending up in the bin! Frasier wasn't too happy to model the finished product seeing as it's the middle of summer here and about 40 degrees in the shade, but he was happy to strike a few more poses for a minute or two:

happy australia day
On a mini-holiday to join family at beautiful Port Macquarie over the last few days, I was visiting my friend Bethmay and, while I was gone, Will and my nephews found this little fellow relaxing in the gum trees.
Then we found him (or one of his friends) again this morning, flat out celebrating Australia Day in typical Koala fashion!

feeding horses
Dad and I treated the neighbours' horses to some thistle and peaches yesterday before the sun went down. Can you believe that they spit out the seed when they're done eating the peach? I didn't think you'd want to see a picture of that, though!

for you
My rad studio man gave me a couple of bonus small prints of Lower East Side and Forty Kegs at the Apollo (they're only around 5x6.25" in size) and I'd like to give them to you, my lovely readers. I'll be delighted to post them to the first two people to email me at heidi@heidiadnum.com. Just let me know which one is your preference and give me your postal address. Don't you be shy, now!

the sky last night
That big cloud was right in front of the sun and bounced the light up into the blue. It was like something out of Evan Almighty.

fonzie flashback
The Debonaire calls this squish of The Fonz and Barry Zuckerkorn (from Ben Oviatt) 'Best GIF Ever'. Agreed? Agreed.

jay b sauceda
US-based photographer Jay B Sauceda's work is rad. I couldn't resist his Sign Painters series of prints from Public School. I love old signs and also the idea of preserving and appreciating them, at the very least in print, before they're gone. I can't wait for them to arrive!

will bryant
You know I have a soft-spot for boys named Will, and I've been meaning to look for the creator of the 'Nice People' poster (that I saw at Etsy HQ) for a while now. As it turns out Will Bryant is its father and it's a couple of years old (so you've probably seen it before). Looks like it's out of print, too, (although you can buy it on a t-shirt) so my photograph will have to do! Will makes such fun, cheery things - why not check out his site?

more pineapple wallpaper
I almost did a back-flip when Design*Sponge posted pictures of Japanese designer Reiko Kaneko's London home. First of all it was the colour-coded bookshelf but then I saw the pineapple wallpaper-by-numbers by Jenny Wilkinson *scream* Reiko even hosted a 'pineapple painting party' so her friends could help her colour it in. See more pineapple wallpaper here (and the cute pineapple brooch I got for Christmas here!).

house-sitting
For the rest of this week, Will and I are house-sitting for friends near Bonnell's Bay, NSW. It's a lovely area with plenty of space, light and birds chirping. I'm also loving the trees - I don't think I've ever seen so many different varieties of gum trees in one place before! Their colours and textures are beautiful, don't you think?
One even had these squiggles all over it, which, at first, I thought were man-made but it turns out they're all over the trunk! Some kind of bug, perhaps?
