big appetites

Have you seen the 'Big Appetites' series from US-based photographer Christopher Boffoli? Christopher's people living in a world of giant food is currently showing in London (through October), and he has upcoming shows in Los Angeles (September), Toronto (October) and Seattle in November. Here's some of the images and their captions:
"Janet was one of those people who would use absolutely any excuse to stop paddling."

"Eric always has anxiety before a deep tea dive."
"Joyce actually had no idea which one was her ball. But she wasn't about to look like a fool in front of Phyllis and those other backstabbers from Accounting."
"If they’d only realized that the killer was right there in the crowd."
"Once again, owning an exotic pet was proving to be nothing but trouble."
 "Number three step forward please."
"It was so like Patty. Right idea. Wrong execution."

love stories

Do you read the Modern Love essays submitted to The New York Times? They're a great read; some are hilarious or inspiring, others are heart-wrenching, and almost all are thought-provoking. If you need something to brighten your day, spend some time at the How Did You Meet? video stories. Aww, sweet!

a waterproof camera at the beach

For a bit of fun on the beach with my nephews in Port Macquarie, I bought a little Kodak Sport single-use waterproof film camera. Even though a lot of the photographs are blurry (and I'm not even sure what some were) I think there's something really charming about them. Dogs are allowed on the beach:

Everywhere I turn there's some sort of face in any old place - I love it! - and the fabulous blog celebrating this phenomenon is now a book. (Oh, isn't Christmas coming up?)

I haven't posted any of my face-in-a-place photographs before, so may I take this opportunity to introduce you to a happy little face that lives at the Top Of The Rock...

walls of istanbul

I've got a real thing for walls (and doors and locks). If you'd like to see, here are some more photographs of Istanbul, this time it's walls. The man in front of this beautiful old wall was selling cards:
The owners of this shop were inside playing cards. It was across the road from the sweet shop:
I loved the gossip triangle these four men created when they all hung their heads out the window at lunchtime to chat:

young me

Have a browse through Young Me, a site where you can submit a photograph of yourself from days gone by along with one from now with you recreating the scene. My favourite are these two, where the man on the right was the baby on the left.

hungry policemen

Tennessee-based web designer Kristi McMurry is also a part-time photographer. Her Hungry Policemen photograph is one of my favourites and I am now the proud owner of an 8x10" version of it. For the rest of August Kristi is offering free shipping worldwide on all of her 8x10" prints - yahoo! My only hope is that Kristi got to eat that fine doughnut when she was done photographing it. PS Don't forget to enter our Good Will Bunting giveaway at You Are My Fave, it will be drawn tomorrow!

Jordan Kaltwasser married Adam Jordan and from that day forward became known as Jordan Jordan. US-based photographers Jesse and Whitney from Our Labor of Love have the most beautiful photographs of the wedding. I especially love her yellow flats and his yellow socks!

UK photographer Mike Stimpson's 'Classics in Lego' photography series is brilliant. Mike recreates famous images entirely from Lego, like Steve McCurry's Afghan Girl and Martin Elliot's Tennis Girl (both shown below). Browse the entire collection here. How cute is this little thing? Hello Egret is a photograph from Canadian designer/illustrator Cheryl Rutherford and I just couldn't resist it. Whether purchased from Cheryl's shop or the Help the Gulf Coast shop, some proceeds will go to rescuing birds or rehabilitating wildlife.
