exhibition

My first exhibition is only one month away - hooray! Visit Riverside Studios, Hammersmith, London, from Monday 30 November 2009 to Sunday 3 January 2010 to check it out. You’ll see this photograph of Kamboyo, one of the orphaned baby elephants at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s Nairobi Nursery. The signed, numbered and framed prints will also be for sale with 10% of proceeds going to a selected Kenyan charity.

Riverside offers a great programme of events, especially over the Christmas season. Stay a while and enjoy something from the cafe or catch a movie double on weekends. After taking it all in, why not enjoy a walk along the river. More information, including directions and opening hours, is just a click away.

2009’s wildlife photographer of the year

José Luis Rodriguez - wow! What an image! Great story, too (I’d be happy just to see the £13k+ camera still there and in one piece after a night out alone in the cold) what a treat it must have been. Fergus Gill is the Veolia Entertainment Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year. See his amazing shot here.

Arguably the best wildlife photography exhibition in the world, we can start enjoying it from tomorrow, Friday 23 October, 2009 until 11 April 2010. Buy your ticket today!

recipe of the week - cookie monster’s famous cookie dough

The Sesame Street Library Volume 1 (published in 1978, featuring the letters A and B and the number 1) was my first cookbook. Cookie Monster had already debuted this recipe in another SS publication, but due to popular demand he re-released this ‘Famous Cookie Dough’ recipe. That monster can cook.

It’s an easy and fun recipe for kids. They’re yummy plain or flavoured with chocolate chips, adorned with smarties or whatever you’d like! Good for kids fundraisers, too.

Ingredients:

170g butter, softened
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, at room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 and a half cups plain flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 190 degrees Celsius.
  2. Beat butter and sugar in a bowl, either by hand or with a mixer.
  3. When it’s changed colour to a paler yellow and the sugar is well combined, add vanilla and eggs. Beat again until combined.
  4. Add flour along with baking powder and salt and mix well. You should end up with a dough.
  5. Leave the dough in the bowl, cover, and place in the fridge for an hour or so to chill it.
  6. When chilled, roll the dough on a floured board to prevent it sticking. Roll into a thickness of about 1cm.
  7. Use cutters or a plastic cup to cut your cookies. It helps to dip the cutter or cup into flour before you cut the dough.
  8. Place on a lined baking tray and into the pre-heated oven. Cook for 6-8 minutes.

take heart india - jungle fever!

The Roof Gardens, Kensington, was the perfect venue for last night’s Take Heart India’s Annual Ball. The theme was ‘jungle fever’ and the event has (so far) raised almost £25,000 for Take Heart India - a charity run by brothers Lucian and Sebastian Tarnowski.

The charity focuses on practical education projects in India and does so mainly through its purpose-built English language and IT school. That £25,000 will go a long way, considering it only costs £37 to provide a 6 month training course.

In addition to the listed major sponsors, supporters include Colin Hallmark from 3:nine communications and Errol Douglas (who donated a £300 salon package, which was awarded to the Best Dressed Runner-Up).
