october in england

I recently spent some time in beautiful Cheshire visiting family. The colour of the leaves and the warmth of the light were just divine - more pictures next week! Have a lovely weekend.

framing LPs

This fabulous idea comes from my gorgeous client, Piola, who is an Art Historian (and almost eight months pregnant!). Piola has collected some of her favourite, colourful LPs and framed them together to decorate her daughter's room. Piola buys the frames from Tiger for around £4 each - such a great price! - and I'm sure you'll agree the effect is brilliant. Thanks, Piola!

sunday nights

I love this photo essay from UK-based photographer Peter Kindersley. In 'London for Loners: Sunday Nights' Peter photographed London on wintery Sunday nights. Petticoat Lane is my favourite; it's so moody and the colours are sublime.

designers guild

Over the weekend one of my lovely clients told me about the Designers Guild, a well-known (except to me) European company who specialise in beautiful, quality home furnishings. Co-founder, Tricia Guild also has a range of books for sale on style and colour. Whether you're in the market for any of that or not, their product styling and photographs are superb and full of inspiration.

rosemary remembrance cake

I can't get enough of herby cakes (and the rosemary on the window sill doesn't get used often enough), which is why I tried Nigella's Rosemary Remembrance Cake. I love it's buttery-yellow colour and the crunchy sugar top. Thanks (again), Nigella!

autumn leaves

Autumn is such a good-looking time of year, isn't it? If I stopped to stare at or photograph all the beautiful leaves, I'd never get anything done! One of these Autumn Leaves is now warming up my Etsy shop.

julieanne kost

US-based photographer Julieanne Kost's Guest Blog for Scott Kelby a couple of weeks ago is one of my favourite posts so far. Julieanne says she's always been afraid to fly and one of her coping strategies has been to take photographs of the view from her window seat. This led to some fabulous images and her book 'Window Seat: The Art of Digital Photography and Creative Thinking':
She also mentions another project or, rather, a game where she took photographs from a moving vehicle without looking through the viewfinder. I love the results:

new life

I just love Heather aka Skinny LaMinx's idea for mugs with broken handles: glorious pencil holders! It makes me think how sweet they'd look as little vases.

walls of istanbul

I've got a real thing for walls (and doors and locks). If you'd like to see, here are some more photographs of Istanbul, this time it's walls. The man in front of this beautiful old wall was selling cards:
The owners of this shop were inside playing cards. It was across the road from the sweet shop:
I loved the gossip triangle these four men created when they all hung their heads out the window at lunchtime to chat:

red leaves

Red leaves are so beautiful, all warm and spicy. This is a photograph from spring but the colours look more autumnal, don't you think?

closing time

Closing Time: A Nation of Shopkeepers is a collection of photographs of British shopkeepers by UK-based photographer Nick Dawe. Like New York and so many other places, single shops in Britain are dying out. Nick's photos help to tell part of their story. Loui's Caff, Britton Ferry, South Wales:
H.E. Harrington, Hardware and Ironmongers, Broadstairs, Kent:
This one actually reminds me of me as I started working as a shopkeeper in my family's fruit and vegetable business when I was twelve but years before that had been helping mum serve customers who would come to our previous shop (in the backyard).

restless general store

Restless General Store is a UK-based Etsy shop owned by artist Olivia Jeffries. Olivia takes gorgeous photographs of the lovely things she sells in the shop - vintage decor, clothing and ephemera - and I couldn't resist snapping up these delights a few days ago...
This bundle of vintage cotton fabrics (including a divine blue-and-white peony pattern by Sanderson):
And this pretty rose serving tray:
I also wanted these wildflower cards but someone beat me to it!
