a long weekend
Here are three posts from this week you may enjoy with a cup of tea at some point over the weekend: Ikea invades Paris Metro stations from Lindsay, Room for Children from Liz (those white picture frames with bottom-weighted mounts are a great idea) and the meerkats at the London Zoo who are getting ready for the general election. I thought I'd share some pretty pictures of Amelie's second birthday party, too. I was there to take the pictures and had a super duper time - how could you not with four little darlings running around, dancing, giggling and being cute for two hours? Oh, and don't forget to enter Fifi Flyaway's fabulous giveaway. Simply leave a comment for a chance to win a beautiful handmade necklace - don't be shy, darlings!
the shaker project
I'm loving The Shaker Project (via Swissmiss)! Dan Frazier is a graphic designer in California and an avid collector of salt and pepper sets. He's photographed each set in his own mini-studio and put together a fun poster, which is now for sale. We have a similarly large and quirky collection in our family, thanks to my glorious father who has collected them for years. I gave him this handmade sausage and eggs set a couple of years ago from Andy Titcomb, a British artist with a small but lovely collection for sale.

why am i marrying him?
Montreal-based photographer Kate Hutchinson began her project 'Why am I marrying him?' during the engagement period of her relationship with now husband Chris. Kate considered their pending marriage and documented Chris's personality through her photographs and the results are mesmerising. The images are serene and full of emotion (I could look at them over and over again). Kate says that they both enjoyed the project so much that it continued long after their wedding day.

the gallery: portraits
Tara's Gallery task for this week is an easy one for me. I have forty-five portraits in my own gallery and hundreds more in my archive to choose from. Taking photos for a living is really, really lovely work. For this task, though, I've chosen a favourite portrait of my mum. This was taken in November 2006 when she visited all the way from Down Under. A group of six of us were on a weekend away in The Cotswolds at Bourton-on-the-Water. I'm not sure who she was talking to, all I remember is that I thought she looked so happy and pretty and how thrilled I was to have her here.

giveaway!
My friend and La Isla Blogita sponsor Irrum has launched her new range of Fifi Flyaway designs in their new home on Etsy! The range includes fabulous accessories for gorgeous gals and specially designed tees for children. Proceeds from all sales will go towards a water sanitation project in the Kibera slum, Nairobi, Kenya. Irrum is personally funding the project, which is a huge task and every penny counts. To celebrate Fifi's launch, Irrum is giving away one of these gorgeous handmade clay bead necklaces. Every shiny, beautiful bead is hand made and painted in Kenya. To win, take a look at the collection and leave a comment here. This giveaway is open to everyone and includes secure shipping in the UK or abroad. The winner will be drawn at random next Tuesday. Hooray for handmade!

race for life
My friend Elfa and I will be doing the Cancer Research Race for Life this year on 31 July in Clapham. I figure that if Paddington Bear ran 26 miles in the London Marathon yesterday in fur and his usual duffle coat, then Elfa and I can run 5 miles in Lycra. For more information on our fundraising, or to sponsor us, click here. Thank you!

ideas and spring blossoms
I hope it's sunny where you are, because it sure is lovely in London. This weekend is Amelie's second birthday party (hooray!) and I'm taking the photos. I wonder what you're up to? Finding Leaves for Soup at the Lyric, Hammersmith, sounds nice for the family. You may have seen Jessi's Rainbow Birthday, Ez's Gift Wrapping Kit or the London-inspired wallpaper in Pippi's newly completed nursery, but if you didn't , take a peek, they're really lovely ideas. Finally, a pretty, fluffy, springy picture of blossoms, just in case you need it :)

our 80s pantry
Ah, old happy memories. They're such wonderful things, aren't they? The kitchen pantry in my childhood home was (and still is) one of my most favourite places. It's a walk-in kind, with a window and a set of those cafe-style wooden shutter doors. Dad or I, or both of us, would look forward to giving it a good clearing out at least once a year. Dad would re-paint the shelves or re-paper the walls and I would line up the little pots of food colouring and re-stack the stainless steel bowls. These delightful things lovingly prepared for sale on Etsy take me back...

good will bunting
You might recall I borrowed a friend's sewing machine a wee while ago. Well, I got around to practicing and decided to make some happy, smiley, springy, summery bunting. I loved it so much that I went on to make a whole range of them! They're now on Etsy in five colours and pure white (which you could embellish yourself or the kids could decorate their own). Will offered some hilariously adorable inspiration for the name: Good Will Bunting. Choose from two sizes: small (1.4m, doorways, windows, etc) or large (3.4m, gardens, walls, etc) plus postage. Hooray for handmade!

ideas and roses
It's almost time for the weekend - hooray! I wonder what you're up to...Perhaps you're going to admire Grace Kelly's dresses at the V&A. Or you might be taking your little explorers to Butterfly Explorer at the Natural History Museum. You might be excited about visiting the Apple Store, Regent St on Tuesday to hear from Nigella? It might be a nice day for reinventing an old piece of furniture. If not, you could always snuggle up indoors and take a sneak peak of the latest Sex and the City 2 trailer or look at this beautiful pink rose - it's one of my favourites. See you next week!

more reasons why i ♥ my clients
Thank you Alvin's Mummy for sending these lovely pictures to share. The last time I saw Alvin he was wriggling around. Now, he's shopping in the pet care aisle! Also, some great ideas for how to use your CD of images from our shoot together: a photo book for grandparents and a large canvas print. The last photo is Alvin during his photo shoot taken by his very proud grandpa.

the gallery: joy
Tara's topic for this week was even more difficult than ugly. I know that sounds crazy - it's joy, after all! - but the more I thought about it, the more joy I found, and I simply couldn't narrow it down. So, I decided to share a photograph from a joyful experience. This was taken one afternoon in Sorrento during il Carnevale in February 2006. Will and I were just over one month into our jaunt around the world and we had managed to (unknowingly) time our visit to Italy perfectly, as every place we visited had just begun their celebrations. It was one parade after another! People were everywhere, cheering, saluting each other (and us) and children squealing with delight. I kneeled down to photograph this little darling in action when he noticed me and the camera, wandered over, and scattered confetti all over us. In the background there are older children running around squirting that streamer-in-a-can stuff, too. It's so warm and happy and brings to mind some wonderful, joyful memories.

pattie's vintage
Look at these little darlings. Pattie's Vintage is a range of girl's clothing hand made in the UK from vintage fabrics. I saw some of Pattie's range at Bliss Fields Boutique last year and thought they were just divine. The range includes dresses, skirts and pinafores and all sized from 1-8 years, and Patti happily takes custom orders. Prices range from £24 to £38.

ruby rose
Yesterday we lost another furry friend: sweet little Ruby Rose. Ruby was about six years old, although no one knew for sure; she was found tied to a lamp post with a note 'please take me home' and so Colleen did. I had the pleasure of meeting Ruby last year in Camden for her photo shoot and what a fun time we had. Let's watch that beautiful video once more, this time for Ruby.

the gallery: ugly
Tara at Sticky Fingers began The Gallery six weeks ago now, asking readers to post on a particular theme or prompt each week, to create a place to share our photographs. This week's topic - ugly - was particularly difficult to post on, as, everything you find here, dear readers, is supposed to keep you positively inspired! Over the weekend while out and about, I did decide on a subject, though: litter. Once I had decided I couldn't help but see little bits of it - everywhere! I then decided to look into the UK's clean-up campaigns, to try and turn this into something inspirational, and, I'm pleased to report on LitterAction: a campaign to encourage us to clean up the neighbourhood, which is co-run by Clean Up UK. Did you know we can even register as individual litterpickers?! A good excuse for some fresh air, sun and exercise, and I'm sure kids would love the challenge of picking the most litter.
